ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport to transfer you to Heaven Boutique Hotel. After having some time to check-in, relax and freshen up, your tour leader will meet you to give you the briefing on all the necessary information regarding your tour and answer any questions that you might have. We’ll have plenty of time to relax and explore before enjoying a traditional Rwandan dinner in one of the city’s best restaurants.
Day 2: Kigali City Tour
Kigali, known as the ‘Singapore of Africa,’ is rapidly becoming one of the most developed cities in sub-Saharan Africa, a significant change from its dark past. The tour starts at the Kigali Genocide Memorial to reflect on the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. We’ll then visit Nyamirambo, a vibrant neighborhood, for inspiring stories and a meal at a women’s empowerment center. The day also includes a trip up Mount Kigali for panoramic views and a visit to Kimironko Market, one of the city’s busiest and most colorful spots.
Days 3 & 4: Musanze - Gisenyi
We’ll set off west from Kigali toward Gisenyi, passing through Rwanda’s beautiful rolling hills with stops for photos. Along the way, we’ll enjoy lunch before visiting the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey International Gorilla Fund. Once we reach Gisenyi, we’ll have time to relax by the shores of Lake Kivu. The following morning, we’ll take a boat trip to the Kinunu coffee plantation to sample local roasts and learn more about Rwanda’s coffee production.
Days 5 & 6: Democratic Republic of Congo - Mount Nyiragongo - Uganda
We’ll set off early to cross into the Democratic Republic of the Congo and head to the base of Mount Nyiragongo. After meeting our guides, we’ll begin the trek up the active volcano, famous for its vast lava lake. We’ll camp overnight at the crater rim before descending the next morning. From there, we’ll continue into Uganda, with a stop for lunch along the way, before reaching Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to the famous mountain gorillas.
Day 7: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - Gorilla Trekking
We’ll head to the gorilla trekking start point, where expert guides will give a full safety and conservation briefing before leading you into the heart of the forest. Trekking through thick vegetation, you’ll experience the beauty of the jungle and the excitement of tracking a gorilla family in their natural habitat. Once found, you’ll spend a magical hour observing their interactions — an extraordinary, humbling experience that few people in the world ever get to witness.
Days 8 & 9: Kibale National Park - Chimpanzee Trekking
We’ll set off for the journey north toward Kibale National Park, Uganda’s famous destination for encountering wild chimpanzees. Along the way, we’ll stop for lunch and take time for some scenic photo opportunities. The following morning, expert guides will lead us deep into the forest to track a troop of chimpanzees in their natural habitat. You’ll spend around an hour observing these incredible primates up close, with chances to also spot a variety of monkeys and colorful bird species.
Days 10, 11 & 12: Murchison Falls National Park
We’ll travel north toward Murchison Falls National Park, one of Uganda’s most spectacular wildlife areas. Over the next two days, we’ll go on safari drives with the chance to spot lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and more. We’ll also visit the mighty Murchison Falls, the world’s most powerful waterfall, and take a boat trip along the Victoria Nile to encounter crocodiles, hippos, and a dazzling variety of birdlife in their natural river habitat.
Day 13: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary - Kampala
We’ll depart Murchison Falls National Park for the final leg of our journey to Kampala. Along the way, we’ll stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you’ll embark on a unique trek to observe Uganda’s only white rhinos. This sanctuary is home to about 20 critically endangered rhinos and is actively working to reintroduce them into the wild. The trip concludes with a restful evening in Kampala, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure.
